he Scout light is machined from a solid piece of delrin, with stainless steel internal components. The exterior is shaped into a unique pattern for easy gripping. The bulb cover is manufactured from Lexan—the same material used for bullet-proof glass.

Two versions are available - the Standard and Mini -Scout. They are designed to have a bolt snap attached and be stowed on the chest of a Halcyon harness, retained by the EPDM rings on the webbing. The advantage of this placement is streamlining when not in use, and easy deployment in an actaul emergency. Keep in mind these are a back up to up your primary light - if this has failed during a wreck or cave dive you need to be able to turn on your back-up light before you unclip it from yourself to avoid the risk of dropping it and losing it, and worsening your problems. Harness stowage is perfect for this.

Halcyon prefers to describe diving lights using lux because this provides a gauge of intensity at a given distance. Whereas lumens represent the total amount of light produced, they tell you very little about where the light goes and the usefulness of the beam. For example a light may have a very high output when expressed in lumens, but if it is not correctly directed or focused it will produce a 'blob' of light instead of a beam, which is very little use to a diver. A light producing less lumens may in fact look much, much brighter in the water if poperly focused, than a high lumen light which is diffuse.
